The SJ Roberts Group celebrated being finalists in the Apprentice Employer category at the Shropshire Star Excellence in Business Awards 2017 in the impressive setting of the RAF Cosford Air Museum.
The Apprentice Employer award was highly contested with the judges receiving a significant number of entries, proving there is a huge amount of support for developing skills and creating sustainable employment in the county and surrounding areas.
As finalists, the SJ Roberts Group hosted the judges on a site visit at SJ Roberts Homes’ development; Sweetlake Meadow on Longden Road, Shrewsbury. This allowed the judges to not only meet some of the current apprentices, but also to meet some of the SJ Roberts team who have progressed through the apprenticeship scheme, and are now in full-time employment with the firm.
The judges commended SJ Roberts on the company’s dedication to ‘changing the perception of apprenticeships in the building industry’ highlighting the career progression available through apprenticeships such as Quantity Surveying, in addition to traditional skills such as Carpentry and Bricklayers.
Mike Sambrook, Managing Director, said
‘We’re delighted to be recognised as finalists in the Apprentice Employer Award. We’ve trained over 50 apprentices since founding SJ Roberts, which is key to developing a sustainable, highly trained workforce for the business, as well as creating long-term employment in Shropshire and Mid Wales – something we’re dedicated to.
We’d like to congratulate all businesses at the awards on their success as finalists and winners, it was great to be surrounded by so many prestigious businesses, truly showcasing that Shropshire is a brilliant place to do business.’< Back to Latest News
