Building Success in 2023: A Year in Review with SJ Roberts Construction

As we bid farewell to 2023, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the key achievements at SJ Roberts Construction this year.

In February, we kicked off the year by commencing Phase 2 of SJ Roberts Homes Allscott Meads development, adding 269 new homes to the existing 201, bringing the total to 470 over the next three years.

During the same month, we tuned in to Ryan Kennedy’s show on BBC Radio Shropshire, where former apprentice Edward Marston and current apprentice Harry Wise shared insights into their apprenticeship experiences at SJ Roberts.

March marked the start of the Adrenaline events, beginning with the Welshpool 10k, where we served as headline sponsors alongside our sister company, Lowfield Timber Frames Ltd, committing to fundraising for Ponthafren throughout 2023, a charity promoting positive mental health.

In April, we commenced work on the final phase of Radbrook Village in Shrewsbury, constructing 27 upscale homes in partnership with Floreat Homes. Simultaneously, we handed over an additional 86sqm of teaching space for Short Wood Primary School in Wellington, Telford, showcasing our commitment to efficient construction in challenging school environments.

May brought exciting news as we announced our appointment by housing association Barcud to deliver Phase 2 of the Maes Dulais development in Newtown, including 31 properties for social rent and shared ownership. Concurrently, we celebrated the early completion of the first 50 luxury holiday lodges for Bluestone National Park Resorts Ltd in Narbeth, Pembrokeshire, as part of the resort’s £24m investment programme.

After 18 months, we were delighted to handover Newby Wiske Hall, North Yorkshire to client PGL in June. This project saw us transform a former police headquarters in North Yorkshire into a vibrant adventure holiday center, creating brand-new accommodations for both our guests and staff members.

During the school summer holidays, we collaborated with Priory School in Shrewsbury, refurbishing two toilet blocks, and adding dining space to enhance the school environment for the returning students in September. Also, ahead of the new academic year, we proudly handed over the keys to Allscott Meads Primary School, a new facility suitable for up to 150 pupils.

In October, we announced our involvement in the Mount Close development in Pontesbury, aiming to provide much-needed affordable housing with 18 new homes for affordable rent and shared ownership, set to be completed next year.

November marked the official announcement of the completion of the final 80 platinum lodges at Bluestone National Park Resort. These sustainable luxury lodges were delivered by SJ Roberts Construction and Lowfield Timber Frames. In the same month, we shared our excitement about collaborating with Cornovii Homes to introduce the first timber-framed homes at the Charles View development on London Road, Shrewsbury. This visionary project comprises 135 homes, including a mix of one to four-bedroom properties, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability.

To conclude the year, we proudly handed over the new community sports and social facilities in the village of Allscott. These cutting-edge facilities embody the visionary transformation British Sugar envisioned for the village post the factory’s closure in 2007. Signifying a significant stride forward, these modern amenities are set to replace the existing facilities.

This year has been a journey of growth, collaboration, and accomplishment for SJ Roberts Construction, and we eagerly look forward to the opportunities the coming year will bring!
