SJ Roberts Construction Ltd has been recognised amongst the UK’s top 100 apprenticeship employers by The Sunday Times, marking the latest in a series of accolades celebrating the Shropshire-based contractor’s long-standing commitment to developing future talent. The firm ranked 61st in the prestigious league table.
The Sunday Times’ annual Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list recognises organisations across the country that demonstrate exceptional commitment to apprenticeships and to providing high-quality career opportunities.
The latest national recognition follows a successful year for SJ Roberts Construction’s apprenticeship programme. In 2025, the company was ranked #13 in the UK Government’s Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers list – the highest-ranked SME across both Shropshire and the West Midlands.
The company also received several regional awards in recognition of its support for apprentices. It was named ‘large apprentice employer of the year’ at the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Apprenticeship Awards (2025), while apprentice Honor Davies, who is studying an HNC in Architectural Studies via Wolverhampton University, was named apprentice of the year. The business also received Shrewsbury College’s ‘large apprentice employer’ award.
Mike Sambrook, managing director at SJ Roberts Construction, said:
“This achievement reflects our continued commitment to developing talent, creating opportunities, and investing in the future of our industry. Our apprentices are an integral part of our success, and we’re incredibly proud of the dedication and enthusiasm they bring to the business every day.
“Being once again recognised at a national level is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment of everyone involved in supporting our apprentices.”
